Michael Silva, the president and founder of FOUNDATIONperformance, is a physical therapist, exercise physiologist, and certified strength and conditioning specialist. He has been training and creating exercise programs for people of all levels since 1994, and an orthopedic, sports medicine physical therapist since 1999. Much of his career since 2000 has been in rehabilitating and preventing injuries in the distance running world.
A graduate of the University of Rhode Island with a Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, and the University of Massachusetts with a Master’s degree in physical therapy, Michael is considered a skilled professional in his field. He has worked with hundreds of clients and athletes at the high school, collegiate, olympic, and professional levels. He is also the creator of RUNstrong®, a comprehensive conditioning program for runners.
Michael’s expertise and interests have made him a sought-after clinician, consultant, guest speaker, and writer in the competitive running world throughout New England and beyond.
He has worked with runners associated with the USA National Olympic team, Irish National Olympic team, New Zealand National Olympic team, Australia National Olympic team, most of the colleges and universities in New England, Boston Athletic Association, and more. He has presented on topics related to distance running and injuries. Some of the events he has presented at include: The Running Event, the AMAA Boston Marathon® EXPO, Tri-Mania Summit & Expo, and the U.S. All-Star Track & Field and Cross Country Clinic.
He has written for publications such as New England Runner and Rhode Island Health and Fitness Magazine and websites such as Beginner Triathlete and ontri. Michael has also been featured/interviewed by Triathlete, New England Runner, MileSplit Rhode Island, AlterG, Perform Better, and Rhode Island Public Radio.
Michael is supported, assisted, and inspired by his wife Carla and together they enjoy time with their two children, Jack and Morgan.
